Baseball Calgary appoints coaches for 2010 season Baseball Calgary is proud to announce that Ray Izzi has been named as the Head Coach of our Midget Performance AAA Team. Ray brings over 20 years of coaching experience at a variety of levels including Midget, high school and US College. He has 7 years experience at the Midget AAA level, including being selected as the All-Star Head coach 3 times, and taking his team to a National Championship. Ray has coached several players who went on to be drafted to successful MLB careers, including all-star catcher Russell Martin, George Kottaras and Jesse Crain among others. As a player, Izzi went to Florida State University on a full baseball scholarship where he led the Seminoles to the NCAA College World Series, and he also played with the Niagara Stars of the CBL and the Toronto Maple Leafs of the IBL. He was also invited to spring training with the Anaheim Angels, where a knee injury prematurely ended his professional career.
We are also pleased to announce that Wayne Arsenault has been named as the Bantam team’s Head Coach. Wayne is heavily involved in sports, being a VP for a men’s basketball league as well as certified umpire with CABUA. His baseball experience includes 3 seasons as a head coach with a midget-age level team.
As well, Blaine Meller has been named as our PeeWee Head Coach. Blaine is a Certified Personal Trainer who is working towards Bachelor degrees in Kinesiology, Phys Ed and Education and is a former chairman of a Youth Association and president of the Boys and Girls club. He has many years of experience coaching kids not only in baseball, but other sports such as soccer, basketball and hockey as well. His diverse background in sports and dealing with youth makes him an ideal fit to develop our young athletes.
We are very fortunate to have these coaches, who do not have children in the program, join our association and develop our players.
As well, Baseball Calgary has arranged to have some guest instructors from the Vipers and other top coaches to work with our teams during the season.
